My name is Nick Wingard, I am doing a blog about starting concept art for complete beginners and more advanced artist who just want to work on their basics. the purpose of this blog is to fill a need at the University of Texas at Dallas, here at the University of Texas at Dallas their is a program for art and technology but what it mainly is 3d animation and design which is nice but there is missing link to this program which is concept art.
Concept art is vital to the 3d animation pipeline as they are the one who come up with earliest designs and image and feel to the character and world to not have a program here is unfortunate and in much need, this blog will help in filling that role. Here at this campus having a skill like this will make finding projects among peers easy and also is a good to build experience, a portfolio and make connections, you never know who will make big and build connections is a good way to get your foot in the door into the entertainment animation world.
The blog will start with barebones stuff, such as the stick figure and how important the stick figure is and why everyone should learn how to draw one and draw it quite well in order to advance on to drawing gesture drawing which is advanced stick figure drawing then go on to gesture and mass and form, from there we will advance to still lives, we will then move on to contour drawings and line, line-weight and its importance. From here the blog will go into to different paths, path one will be will character design, the other will be environment and hard surface design. In the character design route it go over drawing the human figure and understanding anatomy, drawing the face, from there we go to drawing animals and animal anatomy, after this we go to drawing from the mind and building your mental library. The environment and hard surface path we will go into drawing perspective and basic shapes, then move into vehicle design and building design, and industrial design.
This will be start and it will go from there and grow.
